|The contracts have been awarded initially for a period of one year. Thereafter, the entire structure of British rallying will be opened up to tender, as the contracts for the MSA British Rally Championship and the MSA British Historic Rally Championship end in 2005.
"The process of putting the championships out to tender has been very illuminating," explains Colin Hilton, chief executive of the Motor Sports Association. "We have had long discussions – increasingly constructive – about the future of the sport and I feel we are making good progress.
"ANCRO and BTRDA have come up with proposals that secure the championships for 2005 and allow us to focus on the longer-term issues. This is all about creating a strong and integrated way forward for UK rallying and from 2005 there will be a far greater clarity than ever before."
The tender process for seasons 2006 to 2008 will be announced in due course.
"Ultimately, we will arrive at a situation where the whole of British rallying can be promoted as a complete package," confirms Bruce Goddard, MSA Business Development Director. "It will bring stability for teams and competitors, clarity for fans and the media, with real commercial opportunities for sponsors."
