MSA DEVELOPMENT MANAGER

 

 

The Motor Sports Association (MSA) is the National Governing Body of four-wheel motor sport, responsible for the administration, regulation and development of the sport in the United Kingdom. Three years ago the MSA created a programme of activity under the Go Motorsport banner to assist in the development of the sport, with a view to raising awareness, increasing participation and driving club membership.

 

The MSA has now committed to taking the Go Motorsport project in-house from the start of 2012. This has created an exciting opportunity for a Development Manager to join the governing body in order to help shape the future of the MSA’s activity in this area. The successful candidate will also work on other marketing activity within the organisation including the development of commercial partnerships and sponsors, as well as co-ordinating promotional attendance at various shows and events.

 

Reporting to the Director of Development and Communications, duties may include, but will not be limited to:

 

  • Co-ordination of the MSA’s Regional Development Officers, including activity relating to RDO visits to schools
  • Maintain and develop club contacts and respond to recommendations and feedback
  • Continuous review of campaign performance against strategic objectives
  • Development of curriculum materials relating to risk management and their promotion to schools and teachers
  • Identify barriers to entry for motor sport participation
  • Collation of information about grass roots motor sport activity
  • Production of marketing and promotional materials as required
  • Maintenance and development of website content
  • Build relationships with programme partners
  • Consider new initiatives as they arise
  • Work with NGBs and other agencies to share best practice in sport development programmes
  • Create activity around major events
  • Co-ordination of Go Motorsport presence at shows/events, including Autosport International
  • Ensure that the campaign maximises the opportunities of National Motorsport Week
  • Enlist support of major personalities to support the programme
  • Respond to enquiries from members of the public about getting started in motor sport
  • Maintain database of promotional events and activities
  • Work with Communications department to maximise activity
  • Work with MSA Academy Co-ordinator to integrate young driver programmes into development activity
  • Work with the Director of Development and Communications to identify and secure potential commercial partners for the MSA’s Development activity
  • Work with the MSA’s nominated PR agency to maximise PR value of programme
  • Assist with articles for MSA magazines, newsletters and other publications, as required
  • Compile quarterly status updates and end-of-year report of all activities

 

The ideal candidate should be able to demonstrate some or all of the following attributes:

 

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent
  • At least three years experience within sports-related marketing activity
  • Knowledge of development principles in sport
  • A successful track record in delivering effective and integrated campaigns
  • Event management experience
  • Excellent organisational and planning skills
  • Experience of production of materials and collateral
  • A knowledge of and interest in other NGBs and the governance of sport
  • Budgetary control and forecasting
  • An ability to deliver effective projects on time and on budget
  • Strategic thinking and project planning
  • A thorough understanding of UK and international motor sport, particularly at grass roots level
  • An appreciation of the MSA’s Whole Sport Plan, incorporating Go Motorsport and the MSA Academy
  • Good presentation skills
  • IT competence
  • Attention to detail
  • Committed team player with a strong work ethic

 

Salary:            up to £30k + benefits, depending on experience
